Now retired, both Steve and Jeanette Smith enjoyed successful careers in the Tri-Cities area of East Tennessee—Steve in media sales and sales management in both television and radio and Jeanette as an administrative assistant at a locally family-owned business and accounting firm in Knoxville and Johnson City.

Married for 46 years and with no children of their own, the Smiths have chosen to make an estate-plan gift to the Niswonger Children’s Hospital because “we wanted to be able to help provide financial support where there is a real need,” they say.

“At the time we were already in the process of finalizing our estate plan and knew the time was right to make a designated gift,” Steve says.

“Niswonger Children’s Hospital was at the top of our list,” Jeanette adds. “After having talked with members of the Foundation and touring the Hospital, we felt our decision was the right choice for us.”

The Smiths encourage others to think about what kinds of legacies they might leave in their community. “Consider making a designated gift as a part of your estate plan,” they conclude. “If you haven’t thought of Niswonger Children’s Hospital, please contact someone at the Foundation for information and request a tour. Seeing this wonderful facility in our city that helps so many children in the surrounding area will change your life.”
